Snowball was the family dog for 14 years. She was a present to my sister from an ex-boyfriend. She was very shy when we first got her as a puppy because, as we later discovered, she had been severely abused. She was infested with gnats, lice, had worms, and showed all the tell-tale signs of abuse and neglect.
With much love, attention, and affection, she was part of our family for 14 wonderful years and we all feel like a major part of us is missing now that she's gone.
Snowball was the first dog I became attached to and I very much understand now how much animals can be a part of the family and missed just as much, and sometimes even more than, people.
As a dear friend of mine eloquently put it, "An animal's love is unconditional."
