Birth: Feb. 5, 1935
Death: May 19, 2007

Grand Prix Motorcycle Racer. Born Cyril John Findlay in Shepperton, Goulburn Valley, Australia, rode as a privateer in World Championship races for many years, far longer at the top than most riders. He adopted his father's christian name as he felt that Cyril wasn't quite right for a motorcycle racer. He gained his first points in 1961 on a 500cc Norton. In the World Championship he came 7th in 1965, 3rd in 1966, 5th in 1967, and 2nd in 1968. He won three Grand Prix during his career; the Ulster GP in 1971, an Isle of Man TT in 1972 and the Austrian GP in 1977. He was featured in the movie "Continental Circus"(1971) which showed the life of a private rider during the 1968 season. Unlike riders of today, he drove his old van around Europe from track to track, sorted out his own accommodation and prepared his own machine. He was the top privateer in the World for a staggering fifteen years. When he finally retired, he lived in Paris with his family. He became the FIM Road Racing World Championship Director and travelled to GPs around the world where he was responsible for all technical aspects of modern GP racing and its developments,
