Son of an old Maine family. His father was Ira Lemuel Delano, Sr. (1814-1883) and his mother was Isabella Coolidge Bennett (1821-1874). He married Mary Ripley. They had four children, all born in Maine: Etta, Albert, Louis, and Ruby. Rocklin's leading quarry owner/operator in the town of Rocklin in the late 19th century. Worked for Griffith Griffith at one time, and upon Mr. Griffith's death in 1889 bough his granite quarries in the town of Rocklin, California. Member of original Board of Trustees. He built a family home in Rocklin at the corner of Grove and Pine Streets which was described as "the handsomest residence in Rocklin". In later life he retired to San Francisco. He was survived by a son Albert and a daughter Mrs. I. Appleton.
