Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Lieutenant in Company A, 74th Indiana Infantry for action on September 1, 1864 at Jonesboro, Georgia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 8th and 19th Arkansas (C.S.A.)."
