Mary Alice Byrne of Paw Paw, Michigan, entered eternal life Sunday afternoon January 9, 2005 at White Oak in Lawton, Michigan. She was 82 years old.
Mary Alice was born September 10, 1922, the daughter of the late, Peter and Dorothy (Case) Currie. She was a teacher in elementary education and will be remembered for being a loving, caring, and devoted spouse and mother, and for raising her children to become responsible citizens and teaching her children and students with care and love.
Mary Alice was truly a friend to all, and known for her wonderful outlook on life. She was actively involved with the Girl Scouts of America, Y.W.C.A. of Flint, Michigan, and Niagara Falls, New York. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw, Life Member of the Women's Society of Christian Services, Circle Leader, a Deacon, Christian Education Teacher, and 60 plus years as a member of church choirs.
She was active in mission outreach throughout her life and served as local coordinator for the National Day of Prayer. Mary Alice was a member of the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society, National Women's Clubs of America in New York, and Michigan, and American Field Services and Friends of the Paw Paw District Library.
On September 15, 1942 in Flint, Michigan, Mary Alice was united in marriage to Robert E. Byrne who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Kathleen Mary (Joseph) Ossmann of Sacramento, CA, Randa Lynn (Dean) Silber of Paw Paw, and Sheryl Ann (Kenneth) Jordan of Paw Paw; son, Michael Edward (Diana) Byrne of Lawton; 9 grandchildren, David and Michael Ossmann; Tyler, Jody and Jessica Silber; Jason and Ryan Byrne; Erin and Evan Jordan; 2 great grandchildren, Caleb Ossmann and Arrianna Moneta; 2 sisters, Catherine (Curtis) Wilhelm of Burton, MI and Martha Armstrong of Flint, MI; 3 brothers, Gerald (Madelyn) Currie and Richard (Diane) Currie both of Winter Haven, FL, Stuart (Lois) Currie of Byron Center, MI; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Hooper.
Memorial service: Friday January 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Paw Paw with Rev. Tom Abbott officiating. A family graveside service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
