Lois Ann Jammerthal was born Jan. 2, 1936, on the family farm in Portlandville Township near Akron, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Lower) Jammerthal. Lois Ann attended country school near her home. She was united in marriage to James W. "Jim" Arens on Feb. 11, 1956, at San Francisco, Calif. Shortly after they were married they came back to Iowa. They then lived in Denver, Colo., briefly then returning to the Merrill and Westfield area. In 2002 they moved to Le Mars.

Lois Ann had worked at IBP for several years and the Zenith Corp. in Sioux City. In 1982, Jim had a stroke and Lois Ann cared for him in their home for years. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was very important to Lois Ann; she enjoyed having her family together for "Sunday Dinner" for 40 to 50 people. Lois Ann enjoyed playing bingo at the Eagles Club in Le Mars.
