Veteran Civil War, Corporal, Company A, 149th PA Infantry Regiment (Co A 149th PA, 2nd Bucktails), enlisted as Private 15 Aug 1862, separated 24 Jun 1865. Son of Russell and Susannah B. Hardy Lawton, brother of Levi Lawton who is buried in Stony Fork Baptist Cemetery. He was born 20 Feb 1843 on the family farm in western Delmar Township, Tioga County, PA. He was the second husband of Lydia Frances Moore Berry, and they married 22 Jan 1866. A career farmer in Delmar Township, except in 1900 when he bought a retirement home from Owen Swope on Nichols Street, Wellsboro, PA. That did not last long as in 1905, he bought a farm from Elder Mudge in northern Delmar Township. After a brief period of disability, Gilderoy died of heart disease in his home 04 Feb 1911 Delmar Township, Tioga County, PA. He was known as a generous, patriot man, active in local veterans organizations.
