From Joyce Tice's military bios: Became a soldier at 16, enlisting from Wellsboro Mar. 4, 1862, as a Pvt. in Co. E., 1st Pa. Rifles, 1st Brig., McCall's Div., 5th A.C. in front of Richmond, June 1862, he was taken to Point Lookout Hosp., remaining five mos. with typhoid fever, and there received an honorable discharge, Nov. 4, 1862, having taken part only in the seven days fight before Richmond.
He was Post Master at Knapp, Tioga, and belonged to Gen. Cook Post 315 Encampment No. 105, U.V.L., Wellsboro.
