Clair A. "Doc" Murry, 86, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

He was born February 18, 1927, at Garden City, KS to Clarence and Tilla (Sturdevant) Murry. He grew up and attended school in Garden City, graduating from Garden City High School and Garden City Community College.

Clair was a veteran of World War II serving as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne.

On March 28, 1954, he married Jean Cook at Garden City. Following their marriage Clair continued his education receiving his Bachelor and Master degrees from Pittsburg State University, he later earned his Doctorate degree from Kansas State University. He retired as the Administrator of SEK Area Vocational Technical School in Coffeyville.

Doc was a member of the Neewollah Camping Group, and V.F.W. He owned several rental homes in Coffeyville and built two apartment buildings, Doc enjoyed working on the real estate he owned.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; two sons, John Murry of Garden City, and Bob Murry of St. Louis, MO; three daughters, Ann Gustafson of Lake Quivira, Sue Williams of Fredonia, and Cathy Garner of Pittsburg; one brother, Bill Murry of Lincoln, NE; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the South Coffeyville Community Center in South Coffeyville, OK.

Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

The family suggests memorials to the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
