Arlie Houston was the third of twelve known children born to Ulysses Grant Houston and Elizabeth Georgetta (Whiteside) Houston, known as Grant and Etta to friends and family. His siblings in order of birth were Wilbur Roy Houston (known as Roy), Lea Ona Houston Lierly, then Arlie, Charlies Houston (known as Charlie and died as a teenager), Delbert Clair Houston, Velma Houston (who died at age 8), Dean Houston, Cletus Houston, William Houston (died as an infant), Ina Houston Morgan, Mona Houston Hughes, and Lyle (known as Sonny) Houston. In 1942 Arlie married Mary Imogene Pipes Doss, a widow with children. He loved his family, but could not stay in one place for long, preferring to ride the rails and see the world. Always dressed as a gentleman, Arlie was a kind and gentle soul, loved by many.

Please note someone has attached a step sibling to Arlie's memorial, but he did not have any half-siblings. There were other Ulysses Houstons at the time and someone has mistakenly attached Amanda Jane Houston Butler as a step-sibling to Arlie and his siblings, she was an actually his aunt.
