"He enlisted and served with the New York troops as follows: In 1776 nine months in Captain Collins Company, col. Van Dyke's Regiment; in 1777, nine months bateau service on the Hudson River under Captain Barnard and Colonel Hermanus Schuyler; from April 10th 1778, three years as corporal in Captains Marshall's and Jonathan Hallet's Companies, Colonel Phillip Van Cortlandt's regiment; nine months in Captain Sackett's Company, no dates stated. He also said he was at the taking of Burgoyne" (Battle of Saratoga).
