Jack William Holtz Sr., 79, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 24, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Calvary Presbyterian Church of Big Lick, with Pete Ullmann officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 in Arlington National Cemetery with standard military honors.
Mr. Holtz was born Oct. 21, 1926 in Olney, IL, the son of Glen Richard Holtz and Verna Mae Hesler Holtz.
He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Big Lick where he served as Elder Commissioner. After working as a petroleum engineer in the oil and gas industries, he retired as a real estate broker.
He World War II and Korean War Navy veteran, he received two Silver Stars, three Purple Hearts and 14 other medals and ribbons for service in the Pacific Theater, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, North China and Korea. He was a poet laureate and medical corpsman with the 1st Marine Division Association.
He also served as senior warden of the Crossville Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Valerie Chalfant Holtz; sons, Jack W. (Christy) Holtz Jr. of El Paso, TX and Stuart D. Lorimer of Chula Vista, CA; daughters, J. Jill (Jay) Vaughan of Sherrodsville, OH and Sonja K. Snyder of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Shawna, Joshua, Ryan and Ethan Holtz, Nicholas Lorimer, Stacey and Jay P. Vaughan, Aaron Snyder, Chad Hedrick and Todd Phillips; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dannie Jane Phillips; and son, Michael Randolph Lorimer.
