He was born the son of Alexander Bevington and Lois (Barnes) Bevington and married Matilda White about 1838, in Huron County, Ohio. He was a resident of Lagrange, Indiana when he enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on January 10, 1864. He mustered out of the service November 10, 1865, in Indianapolis, Indiana and later relocated to California.
