Death is just another step along life's way, no more than a gateway to a new and better day.

James Henry Taylor, Sr. departed this life on May 9, 1982 at Chippenham Hospital after an extended illness. Born February 24, 1913 in Richmond, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Taylor, Sr. and Harriett Brooks Taylor; his wife, Bettie Lee Archer; two brothers, Benjamin, Jr. and Haywood Taylor; and sister, Annie T. Brown.

He was educated in the Public School of Richmond and attended Armstrong High School. He found Christ at an early age and became member of First Baptist Church of South Richmond under the leadership of the late Dr. W. L. Ransome. In 1978, he was honored as a 50 year member of the church.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one loving and devoted daughter, Joyce Yvonne Taylor Vaughan; seven loving sons, Clyde A. (Shelby) of Norfolk, VA, James H., Jr. (Frances), Archer Lee (Delores), Marvin S., Sr. (Brenda B.), Delmas L. (Audrey), Anthony C. (Pamela), and Kenneth W. Sr. Taylor; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sarah T. Kane (Aaron, Sr.) of Indian Head, MD, Ruth T. Jackson (Edward, Sr.) or Bel Air, MD, and Grace T. Baccus (Nathaniel, Sr.); one brother, Clifton J. Taylor (Ellen); and a host of other relatives and friends.

His remains rested at O.F. Howard Funeral Home. Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 12, 1982, at 1:30pm at First Baaptist Church. Interment Maury Cemetery.

Big Daddy is deeply missed by his loved ones, but never forgotten. He never met a person he could not strike a conversation with, even if it was his first time meeting that person. He definitely had the "gift of gab."
