Ernest served as a Sergeant, Company K, 124th Infantry, 31st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Vermont National Guard on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, in Burlington, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the production of industrial chemicals and also as Single, without dependents.

Ernest was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
