Lois Apphia Hurlbut Avery Denslow, 95, born September 27, 1911, in Winchester, Wash., died at home with her family in Sapphire, N.C., on Saturday, September 1, 2007.

Born in Winchester, Wash., Mrs. Denslow worked as a clerk with the federal government. During her life, she was a dedicated volunteer for her church, community and was always available when needed by her family. Lois will be missed by her family and friends but will live on through her descendants.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Eugene Avery and Lawrence E. Denslow; two sons, John Allen Avery and William Eugene Avery Jr.; one son-in-law, James William Griffith; two brothers, Marvin William Hurlbut and Wallace Allen Hurlbut; and one sister, Helen Hurlbut Curless.

Mrs. Denslow is survived by three daughters, Caryl Larine Avery of Sapphire, Wilma Jean Avery Hoovler and her husband, Charles of The Plains, Va., and Susan Elaine Avery Wolf and her husband, George, of Sapphire; one daughter-in-law, Betty Avery "Sandi" Griffith of Millington, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Eunice Hurlbut of Chapman, Kan.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 13 greatgreat- grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Rosman United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 2 p.m., in Rosman, N.C. The Reverend Rosaleen Feeser will officiate.

The burial will be on Sept. 15 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Enterprise, Fla.
