Jess was a retired Master Sgt. from the Army National Guard 2nd BTN, 19th Special Forces HHQ and served in WWII as a recon Marine. He was a former employee of Union Carbide and the proud owner of Fisher's Union 76 Service Station and Fisher's Restaurant. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.
He is preceded in death by parents, Henry and Crosby Fisher and brother, Matt Fisher.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Virginia Fisher; son David Fisher and wife Gail of Cross Lanes; daughters, Karen Burdette and husband David of Ocala, FL, Debra Snyder of St. Albans, Beverly Sisson of Charleston, his "little buddy" Kim Held of Charleston, Sandy Adams and Suzi Griffis both of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson, Scot Fisher, Kerry Ward and husband Ranson, Julie Peterson and husband John, Cindy Withrow and husband Jason, Melissa Sampson and husband Brian, and Jesse Griffis; great-grandchildren, Zach, Devin and Lily.
Jess was a loving husband, father and grandfather who dedicated his life to his family, country, and community. He will be deeply and greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to have known him.
Long & Fisher Funeral Home in Sissonville is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call Sunday, September 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held Monday, September 22, at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Buckley officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum, with full Military Honors.
