Wilma Bernice Cowen was born February 24, 1923 in Madison County, Missouri; the daughter of Joseph Mile and Fanny Hawkins Stacy and departed this life on November 28, 1990 in the St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View at the age of 67 years and 9 months. She was united in marriage to Junior Millard Cowen July 30, 1983 [sic] in Eminence, and to this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Edward; two grandsons; four brothers and four sisters. She leaves to mourn three sons: Willard and Larry of Mtn. View, and Kenny of Birch Tree; two daughters, Barbara McQuay and Diane Brinkam of Birch Tree; three daughters-in-law and one son-in-law; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mellie Mayberry, Stella Griffin and Alma Cowen. As her mother departed this life early on, leaving Wilma at the age of five months; her sister, Ollie Hawkins raised her as a daughter for this reason, also leaving to mourn, Elmer and Glen Hawkins Birch Tree; Ester Hawk of Troy; and Peggy Phelps of Kansas City. This being her second family of brother and sisters. She was converted at an early age and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Birch Tree; she was faithful to her church and helped in missionary work anyway she could. She loved her children very much and they were her pride and joy. There will be an empty place in their lives. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 1, 1990 at 1 pm in the Church of God of Prophecy in Birch Tree with Rev. Calvin Jones and Rev. Virgil Barnes officiating. Burial was in the New Eminence Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Birch Tree.
