Henry, called Harry, is the son of Captain James & Ellen (née Duff) Flood of Skerries, Ireland, later Brooklyn, New York. His father left for America in 1896 and once he was able to establish himself, he sent for the family to join him. When Harry was 7 years old his mother bought him & his sister Alice to the United States.

In 1911 he married Margaret Thompson in Manhattan. They had 2 children, James & Dorothy. Harry followed his father's life as a sailor, becoming Captain of the tug Frederick D. Underwood for the Erie Railroad. He spent his working life on the waters of New York Harbor.

✞ Captain Henry Patrick Flood was buried on Christmas Eve in the the family plot at Third Calvary in Queens. Buried with him are his wife of 57 years, Margaret, his parents and his little sister Alice.

Gravesite Details

Circa 2013, marble tombstone is in an extremely deteriorated condition, heavily worn away, with pieces chipped off and deep cracks in the cross. It's unlikely to survive another decade.
