Douglas Frederick Sampson, 74, of Capac, passed away peacefully Monday October 6, 2008 at MediLodge of Yale surrounded by family.
He born June 19, 1934 in Capac to the late Frederick James and Ethel (Walde) Sampson.
Doug was a 1952 graduate from Capac High School.

He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a Medic in Germany.

His marriage to Marilyn Joyce Poole was September 9, 1961 at Capac First Baptist Church.

He worked as a test driver at Ford Proving Grounds in Romeo for thirty years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and was a past member of the Capac American Legion Post #142.

Doug enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin in Atlanta, Michigan. He also loved spending winters in Lake Havasu Arizona and enjoyed RVing. Some of his favorite spots that he and his wife enjoyed were Copper Harbor, Mackinaw City and Harbor Beach. He loved working with wood, doing everything from building and restoring furniture, to his favorite hobby of woodcarving. Being outside also made him happy, whether it was working in his garden, sitting out on the patio listening to his favorite music, always with one of his dogs by his side, or sitting around a bonfire under the stars.

He adored his grandchildren and they will miss him greatly, along with the rest of those that loved him.

He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Joyce, two children and their spouses, Deanna and Nathan Montney, of Capac, and David and Linda Sampson, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Montney and Ian and Elizabeth Sampson; three nieces, Barbara Hunter of Lapeer, Linda (Paul) Logan, and Sandy (JC) Lester, all of Forest, Ontario; nine great nieces and nephews and a great, great nephew and niece.

A sister, Elaine Hunter-Chadwick in 2004, preceded him in death.

His family honors the memory of Douglas and invite you to visit and share Thursday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Lisa Clark, associate pastor of Capac Methodist Churches, will officiate.

Burial will be in Capac cemetery, Mussey Township.
Pallbearers will be David Sampson, Nathan Montney, Alex Montney, JC Lester, Brent Boers, Bob Withum and Sam Ramirez Jr.
