Son of Benjamin Mahaney and Clarisa Lynch. Most records show the spelling of Mahanay as ey. And those who stayed in Tennessee spelled it ey. I feel it was changed to ay when the family had a split in Tennessee after the death of Oliver Perry Mahanay. Legal records show that O.P.'s family lost the land they had been leasing after his death. At that time Oliver Perry's widow, Elizabeth and her 10 children, some grown men with families went to Gasconade Co. Missouri. Stories state that Elizabeth's sister Sarah (Sally) who also married a Mahanay was already in Missouri, and encouraged her sister who was newly widowed to come to Missouri. The families later moved on to Johnson County Texas. There were litterly hundreds of the Mahanay lines in this county all spelled it MAHANAY.
