John was the son of John and Lillian Campbell. He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He spent 2 years working on the St. Lawrence Seaway's Eisenhower Lock. He was recognized for his 50-year service as an Operating Engineer. He worked out of Local 18 Union Hall on construction projects throughout Ohio and Michigan. He was a member of American Legion Post 384 in Whitehouse, Wilkins United Methodist Church, the National Threshers Association, The Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA) and the American Truck Historical Society.
He was predeceased by his parents, his grandson, Jeffrey and sister Charlotte.
Surviving are his wife, Clara (Smith) Campbell; his sons, Charles "Chuck" (Mary) Campbell, Ronald (Regina) Campbel; 6 grandchildren;2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois (Robert) Reed.
