Mrs. Alice Paul Abington, 91, widow of the late Dr. T. L. Abington, who was the
first mayor of Oakdale, died at midnight Friday, Feb. 10, at her home in Oakdale.
She was a long time resident of this community.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, in the First Baptist
church, where she and her late husband were both members, and were under the
direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
She is survived by one son, Martin T. Abington of Baton Rouge; six daughters, Mrs.
Alice Guyton of Monroe, Mrs. Virgie Orr and Mrs. Winnie McGinty, both of San
Diego, Calif., Mrs. Sarah Buchanan of Albuquerque, N. M., Mrs. Katie Collier, and
Mrs. Willie Baham, both of Oakdale; 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Many relatives and friends of the Abington family drove from
Many Sunday to attend the services for Mrs. Abington, who with her late husband and
family lived and worked among the people of Sabine parish during their younger
years.
