Funeral services for Elbert Eugene Beard, 67, were Dec. 2, 1998, at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Sellers officiating. Beard, a resident of Tylertown, died at his home Nov. 30, 1998. He was born March 3, 1931, at Tylertown,, son of the late Seth Anderson and Mamie Dillon Beard. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he received the purple Heart. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Randy and Teresa Beard of Hattiesburg , and Keith and Rose Beard of Columbia; two sisters, Laura Lee Dixon and Peggy Martin, both of Tylertown; three grandchildren, Kayla Beard, Lindsey Beard and Isabella Beard; his stepmother, Hoyt Beard; and a brother-in-law, Mason Martin. Pallbearers were Tony Martin, Randy Beard, Michael Dixon, Jewel Dixon, Ricky Beard and Bruce Boyd. Burial was in Tylertown Cemetery with Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in charge.
