Dorothy Marie Hakes, 79, a resident of 4331 Elimsport Road, Montgomery, PA, entered the new life eternal on Friday, May 31, 2002 in the Williamsport Hospital.

Born in Williamsport, PA on Thursday, February 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Roy Trye and Ruth (Kulp) and Harvey Baer.

She was the wife of Lehman L. Hakes, Sr. with whom she celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary on September 7, 2001.

She was a 1941 graduate of Williamsport High School.

Dorothy had formerly been employed at the former Spencer Heaters at Williamsport.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church at Elimsport, PA, where in her younger days, she had taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of Eagle Grange #1, the A.A.R.P., the Senior Citizens of South Williamsport and the Susquehanna Senior Travelers of Montgomery. Dorothy bowled in the Cloverleaf and Faxon Leagues and enjoyed bingo, senior citizens bus trips, gardening and canning. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 6 daughters, Carol Wert (Wayne) Walker of Lock Haven, PA; Mary Ruth (Ronald) Barner, Montgomery, PA; Bonnie Jean (Thomas) Cromley, Montgomery, PA; Sandra Lee (Kenneth) Tupper, Montgomery, PA; Linda Louise (Jerry) Kennedy, Montgomery, PA; Vicky Marie (George) Nash, Montgomery, PA; 1 son, Lehman LeRoy Hakes, Jr., Montgomery, PA; 2 sisters, Mary Aderhold, Lynnwood, WA and Ruth Goodson, Montoursville, PA; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Charles Steele, and 1 brother, Herbert E. Trye.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Elimsport United Methodist Church, 16145 State Route 44 Highway, Elimsport, PA at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 3, 2002 with Reverend Max W. Furman, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, C/O Glenn Shadle, 75 Alvira Road, Montgomery, PA 17752.
