Birth: Jun. 26, 1792
Lebanon County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Sep. 9, 1857
Snyder County
Pennsylvania, USA

Christian was the fifth child of Christian H. Gingrich and Anna Hostettler. He was a farmer by profession. A Mennonite by faith marrying Elizabeth Light approximately 1814 in Lebanon Co., Penn. With two young children, Nancy and John, moved from Lebanon Co., to Snyder County in 1817. The deed showed a purchase date of March 29, 1817. For reasons unknown, perhaps for less expensive land or the idea of starting fresh Christian and Elizabeth moved. After moving they had ten more children. Sadly at the age of 65 Christian took his own life by hanging in the barn. He had left a message in the fireplace mantle soot saying, "you are too hard on me." After his death his widow Elizabeth moved to her daughter Elizabeth Kauffman's home. Christian was buried just down the road in the Freed family cemetery where three children: Peter age 10, Maria age 4, Christian age 2 preceded Christian in death and were buried in the Freed Cemetery. When his widow died she was buried in the Coffman Cemetery refusing to be buried by Christian. A hundred years later the farmer that owned the land with the small Freed Cemetery saw the the decay of the plots and moved Christian's stone to be by his wife's in the Coffman Cemetery. Any remains were never attempted to be moved if any existed. The Freed Cemetery is now part of the farmer's field.

The last child listed, Isaac Gingrich is riddled in mystery. His death certificate lists a Christian as the father, mother unknown. He was raised by Nancy and John Gingrich of Mexico, Pa. Which Christian was the father is the question. Was it this Christian or a relative of John Gingrich who was distantly related to his wife Nancy Gingrich. More research needs to confirm his true links.
