|Death: ||Nov. 2, 1784|
Born in Windsor, Connecticut, 1706. He was a Congregationalist who became a Separatist Baptist during the Great Awakening. Ordained at Abbott's Creek, N.C. in 1757 he was a leader in establishing Baptist work in Virginia, the Carolinas, & Georgia.
In his support for the cause of religious freedom he was arrested for preaching in Georgia. He led in establishing that state's first continuing Baptist Church on the Little Kiokee in 1772. Marshall was the only pastor to remain in Georgia throughout the Revolution. He helped form the Georgia Baptist Association shortly before his death on November 2, 1784. Georgia Baptists are indebited to him for nurturing many men who contributed to the movement's early growth.
