Gula was the daughter of Martin Luther Claterbaugh (1873-1954) and Mary Emma (1869-1934). She married Elwin William Southard (1912-1991) the son of William Southard (1891-1978) and Flossie Maize Hite (1893-1968) originally from Dallas County, Missiouri. Early in their marriage they lived in Roberts County, Texas. They had two daughters. Long time Pampa resident, Gula died there at the age of 81. She had been preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She was survived by her two daughters and at least one brother, the Reverend William P. "Bill" Claterbaugh (1910 2001) who has since died. Her daughter, Barbara Vern Southard Wilson (1933-1995) has since died.

The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains.....
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

As for man, his days are like grass;he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more... but we will remember! Gone, but not forgotten ~~~
~~~ forever in our hearts...
Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives.
