He was born in Indiana and after his father's death returned with his family to VA. They stayed with his mother's first cousin William Crosby. He fought in the Civil War on the side of the North. He returned to Augusta Co where he married his 2nd cousin, dau. of William Crosby. He mysteriously left his family about a year after his marriage and was never heard from again. Even his mother never heard from him. In his Civil War pension application he said he was never married, but the file now contains a letter dated 1920 (10 years after his death) from his daughter Sadie Froom asking to find her father but he was long deceased. Also it contains two letter's from his wife's brother John Crosby in the file. He indicated to the War Dept. that Henry was married to Rebecca and there were records to prove it. He was trying to help Rebecca get a pension but she was denied because she had to divorce him in order to sell the property Henry's mother had left her in her will in 1883.
