Grandma told wonderful stories of her mother to us growing up. Her mother was only 37 when she died supposedly of complications from childbirth. Grandma was just 16 year old. Her family were well known on the island and very active in the community. She married her husband on the island and their first son was born there and then they moved to Tarpon Springs Florida where there was a large Greek community. Her family wrote histories of the island of Nisyros. The gold coins around her neck in the photo came from Nisyros Greece per Grandma.
