Gwendolyn Anne (Workman) Boylan, 68, of Bowling Green, Ohio died Sunday morning April 12th, 2015 at her home. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on April 22, 1946, the daughter of Manley Ray and Ethel El Nora (Cooper) Workman. Gwen graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1964. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1968, an M.Ed. from Bowling Green State University in 1980, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Toledo in 1992. Gwen was an educator for over 35 years throughout Ohio. She began her career as a music teacher and worked at BGSU in the office of Continuing Education, but she spent the majority of her adult life working in gifted and talented education. Gwen taught many workshops and classes for all ages on a variety of topics, and she spent a significant amount of time writing grants to fund educational opportunities, particularly in the arts, for both children and adults. Gwen was also very involved in the music and theatre communities throughout her life. She sang with the Sweet Adelines, participated in multiple church choirs, and was a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony. She directed children's theatre and performed with numerous community and university theatrical groups. More than anything, however, Gwen enjoyed raising her daughter, Heather, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and socializing with her dear friends. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Angela Heatherly (South Shore, Kentucky), and her brother Manley Ray Workman, Jr. (Elkton, Maryland). Surviving are her daughter, Heather (Mathew) Boylan Clark and grandchildren Abigail and Henry of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 from 12 to 2 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Ohio. A burial service will be held on Friday, April 17th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Independence Hospice of Toledo, Ohio. On-line condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.dunnfuneralhome.com
