James Hughes Everett, Sr

James married Rachel R. Combs on 23 Sep. 1835 in Allentown, Monmouth Co., NJ. He was a farmer, first in Jamesburg, Monroe Twp., Middlesex Co., NJ (his farm became Forsgate Country Club). He and his, with their two oldest children, moved to West Windsor Twp., Mercer Co., in 1839. They lived at (and were namesakes of) "Everett's Corner" at the intersection of Quaker Bridge and Village roads. His house was standing until the 1990s.

James served as a constable in West Windsor Twp., 1840-1858 & 1865; on the township committee, 1857-62; and as township assessor in 1871. He was a lifelong Presbyterian. He gave each of his adult children a farm as a wedding gift.
