New York City Mayor. Born to New York State Assemblyman William H. Walker he grew up in Greenwich Village NY. He attended Xavier College and New York Law School. In 1909 he was elected to the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate in 1914. He was elected Mayor in 1925, defeating incumbent John Hylan, with the help of Tammany Hall and Governor Alfred Smith. Was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1924, 1928 and 1932. His administration was marred by corruption. He enjoyed Broadway plays and fine speakeasys.
