George Aldrich (name variant: Aldridge) was one of Mendon's founding fathers. He married Katherine Seald on September 3, 1629 and about three years later he emigrated to America from Derbyshire, England. He lived in Dorchester and Braintree before coming to Mendon.

At Mendon, George had a houselot set off to him a little southerly of the present Mendon village. He had eleven children, all of which were born before his coming to Mendon. [information from National Aldrich Association]

Children: Abel Aldrich, Joseph Aldrich, Mary Aldrich, Miriam Aldrich, Experience Aldrich, John Aldrich, Sarah Aldrich Bartlett, Peter Aldrich, Mercy Aldrich Randall, Jacob Aldrich, and Martha Aldrich Dunbar.

NOTE: This memorial in Old Cemetery, Mendon, is a cenotaph, although family legends have stated he may be buried near this boulder (top two photographs). He is actually buried HERE, at George Aldrich Cemetery in Uxbridge,MA (also known as the Cook/Aldrich Cemetery). There is a plaque there as well, placed in the George Aldrich Cemetery by some of George Aldrich's descendants. (bottom two photographs). ALL LINKS TO AND FROM GEORGE ARE ON THE OTHER MEMORIAL.
