BATESVILLE - James R. 'Jim' McDowell, 80, retired taxi driver after 42 years, died of heart failure Sunday at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, where he was a member, with burial in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. McDowell, the husband of Opal McDowell, also leaves a daughter, Bessie McDowell Fair of Sledge; a son, Jim McDowell of Senatobia; a stepdaughter, Donna Dugger of Batesville; two stepsons, Bruce Mitchell of Marks and J. W. Mitchell of Coldwater, four grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

He also leaves his first born daughter, Jeanette Simpson Sanders of Askew, MS. Also, he had an additional 4 grandchildren (and now 5 great-grandchildren).
