Public trees on Ancestry.com, none of which have any sources, show a General Martin Hancock who was born in 1839 in Irwin County, Georgia, and who died in December 1912. He is said to have been the son of Jordan A. Hancock 91813-1967) and Martha Jane Baker Hancock (1817-1895).
There seem to have been several persons named "General Hancock" living in Colquitt County, Georgia, in the late-19th and early-20th centuries.
(1) General J. Hancock, b. ca. 1855, apparently to Hardin and Elizabeth Hancock (1860 U. S. Census);
(2) General Hancock, b. ca. 1862; living with James & Martha Vick in 1870 and with Wright & Mary Carlton in 1880;
(3) General H. Hancock, b. Oct. 1862; husband of Mary J. Hancock (1900 U. S. Census);
(4) General Hancock, b. Oct. 1882 to Barton and Piney Hancock, and the husband of Melvina Hancock (1900, 1910 U. S. Census reports).
