Allen R. Hickman, 70, of 1618 N. Vermilion, a well-known contractor here for many years, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday (April 13, 1971) at Lake View Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted about 9:45 p.m. Monday. He had been in failing health about one year. Born Oct. 9,1900 in Danville, he was the son of Oscar and Edna White Hickman. He attended Garfield School and graduated from Danville High School. He obtained a degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1922, then worked with his father, a local contractor. In 1929, he took over operation of the business, known as Allen Hickman, Contractor, which he managed until his retirement in 1969. He was married to Lottie May Lasch in Chicago on Aug. 8, 1921. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Joyce Brown of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Mrs. Walter (Peggy Alice) Linne of Bloomington, Ill.; six granddaughters and two great-grandsons; two brothers, Robert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Howard of Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Alice O'Keefe of Melrose, Mass. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. His hobbies were reading and travel. Services will be at 1:30 p. in. Thursday at Pape Memorial Home, with Dr.
Richard Newhall officiating. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 14 April 1971.
