SECHIM M. HUNTER

Sechim Mallow Hunter was born in Barbour County, Alabama in 1842 to Marshall and Sarah Hunter. Both or his parents were born and married in South Carolina. They moved to Alabama before Sechim was born. He died in 1918 in Webster Parish, Louisiana.

At the age of 18 Sechim married Sarah Ann Pool, age 16. At about this same time, on September 6,1860, Sechim purchased forty acres of land in Barbour County, Alabama from the United States Government. This land bordered the forty acres that he already owned and gave him eighty acres in all.

Sechim and Sarah had their first child, DeMarion Victoria Hunter, in 1861 while living in Barbour County, Alabama. The following year their first son was born and they named him Sechim Malow Hunter.

On March 10, 1862, Sechim enlisted in the Confederate Army at Clayton, Alabama, the County Seat of Barbour County. He was a Private in Captain McSwean's Company of the Pea River Rifles, Alabama Volunteers. this was changed to company C of the 39th Alabama Infantry Regiment on May 2, 1862.

He was a farmer throughout his lifetime, except for the years he spent in the Confederate Army. Records indicate he was a successful small farmer and a good provider for his family.

Sechim fathered at least nineteen children; ten by Sarah Ann Pool and nine by Amanda Albanell Guy. The first was born when he was nineteen and the last when he was sixty-seven years old.

Sechim Mallow Hunter, Louisiana Statewide Death Indeces 1900-1929 Webster Parish, Louisiana states that his Death Certificate is # 2926, Vol. 6.

His first name has been spelled several ways but, I used the spelling that is on his tombstone.
