Flora grew up in Indiana in a family of six girls and one boy. By the age of 19, she was a nurse in the St. Louis General Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. By age 29 she was the supervisor of nursing in the Liberal Hospital in Seward, Kansas - she apparently supervised nurses under her. She married Rupert C. Allen, 28 Nov 1928 after his first wife, Inez Anetta "Willie" Powers Allen, passed away. Flora and Rupert never had children of their own, but Flora helped Rupert raise his daughter, Winona E. Allen.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Flora Cox ALLEN, who died Friday afternoon in the Sanford Hospital after a long illness. She was 63 years of age.
Mrs. ALLEN, one of the first registered nurses in this area, had been ill health for the past nine years and had received more than 100 blood transfusions.
She had been superintendent of hospitals in Liberal an in Canadian before coming to Perryton in 1920. She continued in her profession of nursing until her health forced her to curtail her work.
Rev. Keith McCormick, Rev. W. O. Harmon and Rev. Alvin Klotz conducted the final rites at the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon. Pallbearers were Cecil TEVIS, Byron TEVIS, Jack M. ALLEN, Nelson ALLEN, Norman ALLEN and Jack H. ALLEN.
Honorary pallbearers were all members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class of the First Baptist church, of which Mrs. ALLEN was a devoted member.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Irvin MOLESWORTH; five sisters, Mrs. Lucy HARVEY, Brownston, Ind.; Mrs. John F. RAYMAN and Mrs. Letha McGREEVY, Lafayette, Ind.; Mrs. Charlie AMES, Miller, S. D.; Mrs. Dora NITZEL, Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Alfred N. COX, Raymond, Wash., and a granddaughter.
Interment was made in the Ochiltree cemetery.

Flora Cox ALLEN was born January 25,1891 in Reno county, Kansas and departed this life Sept. 17, 1954 at Perryton at the age of 63 years, seven months and 23 days.
In 1912 she became a resident nurse at Liberal, Kansas after having received nurses training in St. Louis, mo. She was a graduate nurse and was among those who established the Epworth Hosptial at Liberal, where she was head nurse and for many years was affectionately known as Miss COX to her many friends and patients in the Liberal, Beaver and Ochiltree county vicinty served by the hospital which she supervised.
There are many citizens of Ochiltree county whose birth she attended as nurse, and many citizens who she has nursed to health.
She married Rupert C. ALLEN of Perryton on Nov. 28, 1928 and they have made their home in Perryton since that date.
She was a member of the First Baptist church of Perryton and was constant and active in church work.
