US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Jones enlisted into the 7th Cavalry Regiment on August 7, 1871 at Nashville, TN. He was assigned to Company H. He was described as 5'6", dark brown hair, gray eyes with a dark complexion. His civilian occupation was painter. Jones was killed during the second day of fighting on Reno Hill. While Jones was laying in a rifle pit, he had rolled over to remove a jacket. As Jones removed the jacket, he was shot in the heart and died. Jones was first buried in a rifle pit. At a later time his remains were reburied in a mass grave on Last Stand Hill. Jones' close friend, fellow soldier and Medal of Honor Recipient, Charles Windolph, successfully petitioned to have a marker placed where his friend had been killed.
