Buffalo Soldier Killed by Indians.--The Troop left camp on White River, S. D. at about 8:30 P.M. Dec. 29 for Pine Ridge Agency, S. D. as guard to wagon train, was attacked by a large Band of hostile Indians about 6:40 A.M. Dec. 30, about 2 miles north of Pine Ridge Agency, S. D. Private Haywood was killed and one public horse while on duty as advance guard. One Springfield Carbine Cal. 45, 1 Colts Revolver Cal. 45, and one Cartridge Belt and Pistol Holster was captured from his remains.
