Lease. May 2, 1743 from Saml Hyde of the City of London in England, Merchant, to Thomas Owen of PG, planter, the lease of part of a tract of land in PG called Bradfords Rest, bounded by a parcel of land formerly laid out for James Crawford, containing and laid out for 311 acres. This lease starts today and is for the natural lives of Thomas Owen himself, Elizabeth Owen, his wife, and Barbary Owen, daughter of sd Thos Owen by Elizabeth, his wife, paying yearly to sd Hyde the rent of 3 17 shillings & 7 pence sterling at the plantation now leased to James Smith, which is likewise part of sd Bradfords Rest, and at the Feast of the Nativity of our Blessed Lord and Saviour. Sd Owen may not commit waste, and no timber shall be sold or otherwise used than for the needful use upon the land afd. Owen, within 7 years, shall plant and make an orchard with 311 apple trees, and shall fence the orchard. No part of the premises shall be let without licence being first had of sd Hyde. The premises will be kept in good repair. If the rent is more than 30 days behind, or any of the above covenants is not fulfilled, then this lease shall cease. The subscriber has been authorized, by a certain deputation dated Apr 19, 1742 from under the hand and seal of Richard Bennett, Esq, of Maryland, who is at this time atty in fact for sd Saml Hyde, as may appear in the Provincial Records of Maryland. Bequeaths to:

1. Thomas Crafford --son -to have the part of the tract of land called "GROVE HURST" where he now lives beginning on the stony hill were the "BEAL PLEASURE" line strikes the giving line of the tract and where John Jinking (JOHN JENKINS) proved running from that place w/ a straight fine by the 30 foot tobacco house across the land down to the ditch and over to the line from the manor white oak --and also to have part of a tract of land called "BEALL PLEASURE"- purchased from Allen Buye. -to have Negro man "Joe" and Negro woman "Mol"-to have one of testator's desks

2. Alexander Crafford -son-to have all that part of "GROVE HURST" whereon he now lives and part of
"GITTINGS PARK" beginning at a white oak being the beginning tree of 'GROVE HURST" and running w/a straight line to 2 large persimmons standing near the head of a spring belong "Greenup's Orchard" and down with the valley until it intersects a ditch then up the said branch to the giving line of "GROVE HURST" --and all that part of that side of the said branch to be his along w/ all the remainder of the a tract of ]and called "WALLINGFORD PURCHASE" where Basil Crafford now lives -after he has 100 acres laid of for him for his natural life as well as his wife's natural life and then to Alexander's son James Crafford
-to have Negro man "Sesar" and Negro woman "Lucy"

3- Basil Crafford --son -to have 100 acres of land where he lives called "WALLINGFORD PURCHASE" and also to have the remainder of "GROVE HURST" where testator now lives and also to have the remainder of "GITTING PARK" to have for his and his wife's natural lives and then to his son James Cratford and should he "have no son of that name" then to Alexander's son James Crafford" and should Alexander's son die then "to the next of the Family named James -to have 1 of testator's desks-to have Negro man "Harry" and Negro woman "Lucy"

-remainder of the estate to be divided among testator's 3 sons
-named executor of the will

4. James Crafford -son-to have 20 pounds current money and the best suit of clothes testator has along w/ a young horse or mare and no more of the estate

5. James Crafford --grandson (son of Adam Crafford)-to have all that part of "BEALL'S PLEASURE" lying by the house where his Mother the widow Crafford Lives -to have a young horse or mare.

6. Adam Crafford -grandson-to have 1 cow and calf to be delivered after testator's decease

7. Mary Glaze --granddaughter -to have Negro boy "Wall"

8. Elizabeth Glaze -granddaughter-to have Negro

9. John Crafford --grandson (son of Adam Crafford) -to have 1 shilling and no more of the estate
