Elvis was a super-special kitty to my mom, Joan. As you can guess ~ yes, Elvis the cat was named after Elvis Presley.
Mom actually had the opportunity to meet Elvis Presley in her own home!! Elvis served in the same Army unit as my uncle Kenny, (Mom's brother). He knew how much Mom loved Elvis, so he surprised her and the family one day at dinner. He came home on leave, unannounced, and to their surprise, there was Elvis Presley in their farmhouse kitchen! Mom said Grandma was a little upset because she would have made something special for Elvis for dinner. Elvis didn't care. They all enjoyed their fried chicken, potato salad and all the fixins'. My uncle took several photos of Elvis and Mom together, and Elvis was kind enough to sign them for her. She had such a crush! Most of the photos and autographs are safely put away, but what a beautiful story to share...
Well anyway, she trained Elvis The Cat to stand on command. She tried to teach him how to dance but he didn't quite master that one. However, he could stand, and he was very vocal about everything! I heard that Mom wrote Elvis a few times, and she told him about Elvis the Cat. He was honored!
So, a big thank you to Elvis Presley for being so kind to my family, and a big thank you to Elvis The Cat for bringing Mom so much laughter and joy....
Specifically: Buried at home on the farm, along with the other Batzka family pets...
