Married Elizabeth Hardeman in 1778 Beaufort, SC. Children of the couple include: William, Jonathan, Hustis Jr.,Elizabeth, Rebecca, Levicy, Caron, and John.

Hustis Studstill - B. 1760 D. 1805. An Ensign in the Screven Militia on Nov. 21, 1793, commissioned Apr. 28, 1795 as Captain of Screven County Militia. Listed as Lieutenant in the Bulloch County Militia Nov. 25, 1796.

According to "Georgia Revolutionary War Soldiers' Graves" Vol One, compiled by H. Ross Arnold, Jr. and H. Clifton Burnham, he served as a Sgt in Capt James McNeal's company of the Richmond County, GA Militia commanded by Col. Robert Middleton. He is buried in Bulloch County, GA.

This church was previously named the Scull Creek Baptist Church, founded Oct. 24, 1804 in Bulloch County, GA. It is now Emanuel County, created in 1812 partially from Bulloch Co. It is now known as Hebron, name changed in 1818. There is a Hustus Studstill listed as member and Rachel Studstill as member. There is no other Studstill listed.

The info we want would be from the old cemetery, somewhere close to the church. I have been looking for the letter that the man sent me with the info but as yet can't find it. He said that the graves at the old place are hardly recognizable and there is no list for that cemetery. Hebron Church Cemetery is at the intersection of Hebron Rd. and Augusta Rd, Garfield, GA. It's on the church property. I wrote the pastor of the church, he gave the letter to the man in charge and he answered my letter. You probably should do the same thing....they may have more information now...it's been 2-3 years since I was there. The post office is TINY and they will deliver your letter to the church.
Hustus Studstill, an early citizen of Bulloch County, Georgia and an ancestor of many of the name in Wiregrass, Georgia, whom was born in South Carolina.
He was said to be a soldier in the Revolution War (1775-1783). He grew up and married in Beaufort District, SC and had lived there until 1793, when he moved with his family to Screven County, Georgia.
He married Elizabeth Hardeman she is the daughter of Thomas Hardeman and Elizabeth Maybane

Of the children, John and Hustus Jr. moved to the Lowndes County area, John settling in Brooks County and Hustus into Lanier County area. William moved to Telfair with his father-in-law and had a big family.
Jonathan moved to Cook County, Georgia.

He was living in Effingham County in 1794 as he was shown by a roll of Captain Stephen Mill's Company of Effingham Militia.
Mr. Hustus Studstill was granted 100 acres of land in Screven County in 1793 and 400 acres in 1796. He was cut into Bulloch out of Screven and lived there until his death.

He was named by legislature as one of the Commissioners to locate the County-seat of Bulloch County in 1804; these Commissioners selected the site now known as Statesboro, Georgia. He was commissioned Ensign in the Screven County Militia on November 21, 1794 and as Lieutenant in the Bulloch Militia on November 25, 1796.

He was commissioned on April 28, 1795, as Captain of the Screven County Militia and was serving as such when cut into Bulloch County in its formation the next year. He was Captain of the Bulloch County Militia, commissioned on March 14, 1799.

He left a will dated September 3, 1804 and was probated on June 1, 1805 in Bulloch County, Ga.
The widow and Drury Jones Sr. applied for administration on February 13, 1805. However, the will was produced and probated in June, 1805 and it named Drury Jones, Joseph Tanner, Josiah Sirman and testator's son William as executors.
The estate was appraised on June 17, 1805, by Nathan Sweat, James Williams and Stephen Mills and totaled $ 7445.74, exclusive of the land and improvements.
Listed were 9 helpers on the farm ($3260.00), 6 horses ($ 315.00) and 497 head of cattle ($ 3100.00).

Mrs. Margaret Studstill West of Andalusia, Alabama, -- was the first descendant of Hustus Studstill to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the record of his service as a Revolutionary Soldier.
She is a member of Old Three Notch Chapter in Andalusia and her D.A.R. National Number is (546672). She admitted it on January 31, 1970 and is a descends through the son 'William Studstill' (1780-1844).
