Daniel Adam Alexander, 30, Captain, USA Retired, died Saturday, June 28, 2003 in the San Antonio area after a long battle with bone cancer. Born in Philadelphia, Pa, he spent most of his formative years in San Diego.
He was selected for admission from Morse High School into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. He graduate from West Point in 1994 and entered the U.S. Army as an armor (tanks) officer. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and has been under treatment at the Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio. He was medically retired from the Army in May, 2003.
Dan was greatly respected as a superb officer and received numerous medals and awards, including the U.S. Armor Association's prestigious Order of St. George Bronze Medallion, presented to armor officers who demonstrate exemplary leadership. He will be remembered by his friends for his courage, determination, gentle nature, sense of humor and bright smile.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Breige; son Lance and daughter Lauren of Helotes, Texas; brother Marc, a U.S. Marine Corps Captain stationed in Havelock, NC, and his wife, Shawn and daughter, Tori; and his parents, Dr. Roger and Barbara Alexander of Garland, Texas. Dan was preceded in death by his older brother, Matthew.
Following a Mass at West Point's Holy Trinity Chapel on July 8, Dan will be interred at the US Military Academy cemetery at West Point. The family has established a fund in Dan's memory to benefit the Wilford Hall Medical Center Infertility Clinic at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
