J Virgil Garrett, 61, of 102 Brently Circle, died suddenly of a heart attack while playing golf at the Sedgefield country club early yesterday afternoon. Guilford county Coroner W. W. Harvey signed the death certificate stating that death came from "acute dilation of the heart."

He had been playing golf with friends and associates of the Chadbourn Mills, of Charlotte, where he was employed as purchasing agent. The heart attack occurred on the green of the ninth hole at the Sedgefield course shortly after noon yesterday.

He was born in Jamestown, May 14, 1886, the son of Joseph D. and Mary Bales Garrett. He was connected with the Adams Millis hosiery mills here for 35 years, until recently when he accepted the position of purchasing agent for the Chadbourn Mills. He was a member of Wesley Memorial church, served on the board of stewards and sang in the choir.

Surviving are the wife, the former Iva Holton of Jamestown two sons, Jack of Greensboro and Frank of High Point; three brothers, Dewey of High Point, Raymond of Asheboro, and Floyd of Jamestown; and one sister, Mrs. Annie Lequer of Jamestown.

Funeral services will be held at the Wesley Memorial church this afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Paul S. Hardin in charge. Interment will be made in Oakwood Memorial Park.
