Floyd was born April 2, 1896, a son of Joseph Daniel and Mary Annie (Bales) Garrett. He served in the army during World War I and was sent to France, where he spent months in the trenches. He was disabled as a result of his service, losing his hearing to shellfire deafness. He never married, but made his home with his parents, and later with his sister, Annie Jane Garrett Luquer. He died of a heart attack on Jan 2, 1953.

JOSEPH FLOYD GARRETT DIES IN JAMESTOWN
Joseph Floyd Garrett, 56, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon about 3:30 o'clock in Jamestown.

He was born in Jamestown, April 2, 1896, a son of Joseph D. and Mary Bales Garrett. He had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Herbert Luquer, Jamestown, for many years He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Robert Parker Post of the American Legion, Jamestown.

Surviving are a brother, Raymond L. Garrett of Asheboro, the sister, Mrs. Herbert Luquer, several nieces and nephews. He was never married.

Funeral services will be held in the Sechrest chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. E. M. Avett, associate minister of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Interment will be in the family plot in the Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Sechrest's.

Funeral services for Joseph Floyd Garrett, 56, were held in the Sechrest chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. E. M. Avett, associate minister of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Interment was in the family plot in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were J. B. Blair, Harold Hall, C. P. Turner, Tom Ragsdale, Lawrence Harvey and Neece Osborne.

Mr. Garrett, a resident of Jamestown, having made his home there for many years with a sister, Mrs. Herbert Luquer, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon. Death resulted from a heart attack.
