Services for Evelyn Pruitt Axtell, 86, of Tyler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Wiley officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Axtell went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. She was born June 30, 1925, in Tyler to the late Jesse James and Lura Puritt. She graduated from Draughon's Business College and lived in Tyler the majority of her life. She was a secretary at several firms and retired from the office of JG Walker Jr. She loved to travel, enjoyed cooking and being surrounded by her family, to whom she left a lasting legacy.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Les Axtell Jr., and a brother, Norman Pruitt.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lester III and Margaret Axtell; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bruce Folks; brother, Leslie Pruitt, all of Tyler; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Dale Pruitt, Doug Pruitt, Nathan Bartlett, Andrew Green, Dr. John Shum and Austin Kennedy.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Camp Fannin Association; Sierra Leone Mission, c/o Bethel Bible Church of Tyler; or First Baptist Church of Tyler Missions.
