Hancock Soldier was Killed in Action in Belgium
The body of Private Elwood C. Coffman, aged 23, who was killed in action December 27, 1944, in Belgium, is now resting in state at the Charles R. Best Funeral Home in Hancock, where it will remain until Thursday afternoon at 1:30.
Private Coffman was the son of George and Lillie Bishop Coffman of Hancock. Born and reared in Hancock he lived there until his induction into the armed services Nov. 14, 1940.
Besides his parents he is survived by brothers, Charles, Vernon, Wilson, and Urcel [Ercel]; and sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wink, Mrs. Mary O'Rourke, Mrs. Edwin Hixon, and Mrs. Elda Mellot, all of Hancock.
Reburial services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. H. Kearney Jones officiating. Interment will be made in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Webster B. Harrison Post No. 26 of the American Legion, Hancock.
