Death: Sep. 23, 2009

Nola, age 76, passed away at home with the Hospice program. She lived in Wisconsin all her life. She was born the daughter of Herman & Evelyn Simonis, in Marathon County.
She graduated from St. Aloysius in 1946, Nathan Hale High School in 1950, and went on to become an L.P.N. She met Gerald G. Campbell while they were both serving in the Army Reserves and they married on Feb. 19, 1955.
They moved from Milwaukee to West Milwaukee and then West Allis as they worked and raised their family. Nola worked as a nurse for 22 years after the children all started school and then retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital in 1988. She then worked as a volunteer at the VA Hospital for many years.
Nola was known for her leadership, organizational abilities and wonderful down-to-earth sense of humor. Nola loved traveling and visited many different states and countries with her husband until she was widowed in 1989.
She then took up traveling with her friends, Friendship Force International and her children and grandchildren. She was in the first tourist group allowed back into Cuba, flew a kite over Hitler's bunker in Austria, spent a summer in India using her skills at an AIDS community with a granddaughter, sailed on a Windjammer cruise, played with koalas in Australia, was haunted in an English boarding house and attended a wedding on a Jamaican beach to name only a few of her adventures.
Nola attended and was active in her churches, St. Florian's of West Milwaukee and Mary Queen of Heaven in West Allis. The girlfriends she worked with in the Christian Women's Association were her light and joy always. Nola was also active in the Crimestopper's of West Allis-West Milwaukee becoming a board member and holding a deep respect for all the "guys" at the "Cop Shop."
Her husband Jerry and two sons, Matthew and Mark preceded her in death. Surviving her are two daughters, son Eric, six grandchildren and one one great grandchild.
A Mass was held at Mary Queen of Heaven, West Allis.
